Floral Symphony

Michele Van Maurik was the Third Prize Winner in International Artist magazine’s Challenge No. 142 Florals & Gardens.

One of Canada’s leading floral painters, Michele Van Maurik captures the fleeting beauty of flowers with vibrancy and delicate precision. “To me, flowers are nature’s eye candy—too beautiful to ignore. They are given to us for many reasons and bring joy to everyone. My work reflects this deep connection, celebrating the emotional resonance of flowers and their ability to uplift and inspire,” she says. “Every painting is a journey where color and brushstrokes tell a story of nature’s wonder.”

Her oil Rapture in Pink is a portrait of a poppy in brilliant shades of pink. “I spotted this stunning Icelandic poppy at a local floral shop and was immediately awestruck,” says Van Maurik. “The unique shade of pink [and the] ridges and luminosity of the petals provided an artistic challenge I was ready for.” Splendor of Tulips, a vertical composition at 60-by-36-inches, features three crisp, bright tulips in a vase. “These multicolored and widely untamed tulips were such a joy to capture onto canvas. I am always intrigued by how the glass vase with its stems and leaves create a dance of light and refraction.”
